Selection Policy

Camden County College Library collects materials relevant to the classes and programs offered at the College. The College Library also serves the professional needs of the faculty, staff, and the college community with relevant materials to support the curriculum and research needs of students.

Below are factors when making purchasing decisions:

  • Course Syllabi
  • Accreditation of specific programs
  • Suggestions from faculty, staff, and students (use the link at bottom of box to make a suggestion)
  • Interlibrary loan requests
  • Usage and Circulation Statistics

When selecting media, the College Library currently purchases both DVDs and streaming video.

The library withdrew its microfilm in spring 2016 and does not purchase or accept donations of microfilm.

The College Library does not purchase books that have been self-published or published by vanity presses, or ephemera such as pamphlets or catalogs.

Donations

Donation of Monetary Gifts

Please consult the Foundation Office for donation guidelines.

Donation of Physical Items

Gifts of materials will be accepted by the Library within the following guidelines:

  • A list of items to be donated must FIRST be submitted to the Library. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF DONATIONS.
  • Email the list to asklib@camdencc.edu or drop off the list at CCC Library. Please provide item details (publication information, format, and condition) and contact information.
  • The library will contact you within 2 weeks regarding the materials.
  • The library WILL NOT accept instructor review copies of textbooks - no exceptions.

Materials Review

  • Materials obtained as gifts must meet the same standards as those stated in the Library Collection Development policy and must be approved by the Collection Development Librarian and Director of Library Services.
  • Gifts become the property of the Camden County College Library. The Library staff reserves the right to add only selected items from any donation. Materials may be added or discarded without consulting the original donor.
  • Since the library is actively used, and sustains losses through theft, mutilation and wear, no guarantee can be made that any gift will be a permanent part of the collection.
  • Upon request, a receipt in the form of a letter acknowledging the donation will be sent to the donor.
    • Board of Trustees Policy requires that all private gifts to Camden County College be accepted through the Camden County College Foundation. After completing a Private Gift Acceptance Form, donors will receive an acknowledgment letter. This letter may be used by the donor for tax purposes. Donations are not given a value.
  • The donor may have a book plate included in their donated book to acknowledge the individual donating the material or to dedicate a donation to another individual

Withdrawing Policy

In order to maintain a high quality, relevant collection, the Librarian - Collection Development reviews subject sections on an ongoing basis and guides deselection decisions using the following criteria:

  • Condition
  • Age/Currency 
  • Duplication
  • Usage
  • Format
  • Relevance

Textbook Reserve Policy

Textbooks on reserve at the library are property of the academic departments, and are made available with their knowledge and permission. When a book is no longer needed for reserve, it is returned to the department. If an edition is out of date by two or more years and the course has adopted the newest edition, the library reserves the right to dispose of the resource if the department does not ask for it to be returned.
